BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- A public display of bras outside a Bowling Green business has been set ablaze.

The cancer-awareness display at Western Kentucky Diagnostic Imaging Center had created some controversy in the south-central Kentucky town, prompting calls to the business and letters to the paper.

On Monday night, vandals set fire to the display, burning some of the bras, according to WBKO-TV.

Cancer patient Debra Ramsey, who contributed to the display, told the station that it is "not a joke" and it wasn't easy to hang her bra where the public can see it

It always puzzled me that a woman would ask for support, then burn her bra.

When people bring up the "support bra" I always think of Jane Russell

Someday researchers and feminists will admit the link between Breast Cancer and the Birth Control Pill.

They refuse to conduct studies using women WHO HAVE NEVER TAKEN BCPs, as a CONTROL GROUP!

Instead, they pretend that if you've been off of them for 10 yrs. that's sufficient for a control group....

Tell me again what years the incidence of Breast Cancer began it's climb???

One can strongly oppose cancer and yet not display their underwear.

Public standards should have been taken into account. They obviously weren’t.

If that's the case then why do Catholic nuns have such a high rate of breast cancer?

The answer lies in lack of childbirth and breast feeding.

I’m reminded that heading south on I-81 into Virginia, there’s a mountain ridge with two beautifully shaped and spaced peaks.....which my brother Ken always referred to as “JANE RUSSELL HILLS”! ;o)

A comparative investigation of sociodemographic and behavioral risk factors for cardiovascular disease and breast cancer in a cohort of Catholic nuns and a representative sample of United States women

Study: Nuns Have Greater Cancer Risk

Trends in Mortality in Older Women: Findings from the Nun Study

There are hundreds of articles.

Yep! I dig it.

In fact, what the French-Canadian explorers called them when the came into the Jackson Hole area, verbatim, was”
Le Trois Tetons. THE THREE BREASTS.

1st study Stated: Breast cancer prevalence could not be ascertained by the national databases so no comparisons could be made.
... only age was significantly associated with breast cancer in the nuns.

The 2nd article is too limited and too early to be of any use:
“TAMPA — Roman Catholic nuns in the United States are at greater risk of developing breast cancer than women in the general population, the University of South Florida reported on Friday.
The study was conducted by two researchers from the university`s College of Public Health. Dr. Robert McDermott and Maureen Malloy polled 345 nuns in Wisconsin and the St. Louis area in 1986 and 1987.”

3rd study is more interesting:
Covers the years 1965 to 1989 which is too early to be of much use for comparing with the BCP population.
But it does address:
The Catholic sisters had high rates of mortality from cancers of the breast and reproductive organs, suggesting an effect ofnulliparity manifested in older women.
BCP impacts wouldn’t be anticipated to manifest in the using population until about 1985.

Today Breast Cancer is far more frequent in the 35-55 age group than it ever was, prior to 1975. The BCP came into wide use after 1965.

The only thing worse for raising your breast cancer rates is aborting your first pregnancy. You are right you can see the charts and watch the rise start about 5 years after the pill starting being prescribed and another rise in about 1978.

Where did you hear that? I’ve never heard that one.Though never having kids and never BF can also be a risk but not nearly as big a one as using the oil and abortion is.

My mom was an RN. I remember hearing about it over 35 years ago. Apparently breast cancer was even referred to in Europe as “the nun’s disease” hundreds of years ago.
