I suspect that her son, Trig, played no small role in her decision.
I think that Palin knew or realized that the GOP threw her under the bus in 2008, either because they viewed her potential as VP to really upset the apple cart under McCain and start swinging the axe, or because mittens didn’t get the nomination, which pissed off the country club faction of the GOP to no end. This time, 2012 is no different. The DNC/RNC along with the MSM and the usual suspects, have all but concluded that mittens will be nominated, and judging by all of the hit pieces and negative articles coming out about Cain and Perry, they’re trying their hardest to make it happen. I think Palin realized that she doesn’t have a friend in the GOP, that the conservatives are too factioned and splintered, and that outside of a third party, she had no chance of getting elected.
I too have been upset by Sarah’s decision, but I know even if she won, she would have had a hard time accomplishing anything without the backing of those in the House and Senate. The good old boys network needs to be destroyed and the way to do it is like Sarah said, work on the House and Senate. That being said, I see a problem for Sarah in that none of the presidential candidates are worth endorsing and how does she get around THAT? She could not endorse anyone in the primary, but what about the general election? If she endorses one of the candidates and they lose, will it cost her political capital?
I respect her decision. If she's not in it 100% I wouldn't want her to run, one has to want the office bad enough to endure the media crucifixion. After what she went through, who can blame her. Years of liberal psycho attacks would be enough for any one of us. I wish her health, happiness and peace.
Cheers!
You are very astute about the GOP Establishment. They are dead set on having a RINO Beltway Buddy in office and would have been brutal on Sarah.
Here is an inside story from Florida. Lt. Col. Allen West ran for Congress in 2004 against Ron Klein(D), a lifelong incumbent who shmoozed the condos every year for his perpetual seat. Col. West ran on a total grassroots effort. He had NO support from the Republican party of FL, who ignored him completely. Nevertheless, he got 47% of the popular vote! Of course, the next time in 2008, the RPOF supported him, and he is our new Congressman!
We are seeing this on a National level with Sarah, Michelle Bachman, and Herman Cain. The Establishment, it seems, would rather have an evil Marxist dictator, than a Tea Party Favorite. The 2010 election has frighten them almost as much as it did the democrats.
