ZANESVILLE, Ohio (WTVN) -- A number of exotic animals, including lions, bears and cheetahs, were running loose in Muskingum County after someone opened their cages.

The owner of the wild animal preserve on Kopchak Rd, which runs along I-70, was found dead.

During a press conference Tuesday night, Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz urged residents to stay indoors and recommended that some area schools cancel classes on Wednesday.

Zanesville City Schools, West Muskingum Local Schools and Maysville Local Schools had cancelled classes.

There were reportedly upwards of 50 animals at the farm.

LOL

Jack Hannah is driving through the night from Penn State to be a consultant with the rest of the Columbus Zoo and Wilds people. He said the police told his people they had to stay off the property, so they didn’t even have a chance to tranquilize them before the cops shot them. [In one account, I saw, they used their service weapons...wonder how that worked out? ///brutality]

D@mn the cops and the Nuge! I wanted this to end like Disney & Obama promised.

Yeah, it’s a common thing these days, so many people out there who cannot see a difference between animals and people. It’s rampant.

You know, I may have overlooked that news article, the link that you had posted from a few months back.

The local volunteer no-kill shelter that I have help out, it is a team effort, clean and fed, medical, placement, and socialization, just to name a few. No one person is in charge of everything.

Good wild animals refuge centers and zoos have a group-cordinated set-up.

Also I am from CT which had that rampaging chimp incident and not too long afterwards added a law making having wild animals for pets illegal.

I have to agree...it’s terribly tragic, but it had to be done.

I don’t understand all the assumptions that the cops were gleeful over it, though. For all we know, they might greatly admire big cats/wolves/bears and be quite upset that they had to take one down in the line of duty.

Thing is, that’s what it is...duty. Someone mentioned what makes them more qualified...their duty is to protect the people and find a solution, which is what they did. All the blame for this belongs with the jackass who let them loose.
