I can buy a light stick that mixes chemicals and produces light. It works on a small scale but why is no one scaling it up to light homes and businesses and whole cities?

Simply producing in small amounts what would be useful in large amounts means little unless it can economically and safely be scaled up.

Algae will produce oil but can it be scaled up to produce useful amounts versus other means?

Someday? Maybe, maybe not. Right now a comic opera awaits Act III.

Exxon’s business hasn’t been “disrupted” yet by the “world changing” cold fusion. Maybe next week.

That’s good enough for me! If my bathroom scale shows I weigh more this year I just ignore it as being a bit off.

methane is heavier than air!

THAT, depends upon how warm the methane is in relation to the surrounding air.

Hence the reason most farts are easily detectable by the human olfactory gland as a warm fart rises quickly to be sniffed in a timely manner before dispersing.

Measuring the individuals weight before and after methane venting shouldn't be much of a challenge for your triple beam balance.

Maybe you could run some tests! :)

Pay attention to the article. Don’t see Rossi’s name there anywhere. But there are a lot of PHD’s on the list.

On May 29, 2009, the University of Missouri hosted a seminar titled, “Excess Heat and Particle Tracks from Deuterium-loaded Palladium.”

UM has made this seminar available online through a series of videos and Powerpoint slides as presented by the speakers which include:

Robert V. Duncan, Ph.D., University of Missouri
Mr. Lawrence Forsley, President, JWK International Corporation
Pamela A. Mosier-Boss, Ph.D., Advanced Systems and Applied Sciences Division of SSC-Pacific
Frank E. Gordon, Ph.D., Head, Research and Applied Sciences Department, US Navy SSC-Pacific
Edmund K. Storms, Ph.D., KivaLabs, LLC, Santa Fe, NM and Greenwich, CT
Michael C.H. McKubre, Ph.D., Energy Research Center, SRI International
Peter L. Hagelstein, Ph.D., Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Yeong E. Kim, Ph.D., Purdue University
Mark Prelas, Ph.D., Nuclear Science and Engineering Institute, University of Missouri
David J. Nagel, Ph.D., The George Washington University
Peter H. Handel, Ph.D., University of Missouri – St. Louis

I have heard stories.......... There have even been major mailers who claimed that bodily gases emitted at a propitious moment ended up distorting the sample piece weights and they had to pay too much.

methane is heavier than air

Methane is a little lighter than air.

The molar weight of methane (CH4) is 16 (12 for the carbon, plus 4 * 1 for the hydrogen). The molar weight for O2 is 32, and for N2 is 28.

I don’t know about you but “COMPRESSED GAS” has it all over plain old air.

“One of the remarkable things about Rossi’s progress.”

Progress? What “progress”? You haven’t seen anything from that guy, yet, you claim everything he says is true. How gullible and stupid.

You have a standard weight set available to calibrate triple beam balance scales. They are sold with the scale. Laws everywhere require that any scale used for sale (which this one was) must be certified regularly.

No doubt the scale had been certified.

BTW, the problem with modern electronic scales (which have almost totally replaced beam balance scales) is they can be far more sensitive than is required.

Used to be the most sensitive scales were fairly high priced, then when you got down to the little jobs that relied on membrane pressure they were cheap ~ a few bucks.

You rarely see the old spring type scales, and the beam balance scales frequently have irreplaceable points (nobody makes 'em anymore).

I think the last postal scale we looked at was so good quantum noise was actually a problem at the rightmost digit (which was far beyond anything we needed). It was still in the acceptable price range.

BTW, regarding the lab referenced in the article, "Navy's SPAWAR laboratory", SPAWAR stands for Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command

Why did you feel the need to say that? P.S. Just for you, I am an original member of AFSPC, having been there on day one, and having worked with just about space and missile office in the DoD. :)

It shouldn't be showing you weighing more. You should recalibrate it each month to your 'known' weight.

My scale is like a cat’s tail, if I don’t step on it, no problem.

Thanks for making my day. I love that the government science people have the leash to do these sorts of things.

I'm a wee bit skeptical of Rossi and of anything he's involved with. That said, I wish him luck with his combination of elements but not if his motive is to scam investors. If that's the case, I'm pretty sure he will eventually wind up behind bars.

For the third time ...

Why did you feel the need to say that?

It suggests a reason for the alleged interest that SPAWAR may have had in the E-Cat, if they are independently engaging in cold-fusion tinkering.

Progress? What “progress”?
***It’s right in the sentence prior to the one you copied.

The NiH reaction was much more difficult to replicate than the D-Pd.

The reason we are even having this discussion is that Rossi has developed a way to get the NiH reaction to show itself on command. No one else can say, “right here, next Tuesday I will flip a switch and generate excess heat from Ni-H”, let alone from D-Pd.

Of course, anyone who has been following LENR would know how significant that is. But someone who is just focusing on one tree rather than looking at the forest will not be aware of it.

You haven’t seen anything from that guy,
***There sure has been an awful lot to report in the last few months. Maybe you are talking about someone else. Look how even you are focused on him when this thread is about someone else.
