That's D'Souza's theory. He's already turned the article into a book and gotten some critical reviews, like this one and this one. The reviews aren't defending Obama. They just point out that it doesn't all come down to Daddy and anti-colonialism.

The first problem is that a lot of the left espouses views similar to Obama's even though they don't have foreign-born presumed fathers and roots in third world anti-colonialism. This is particularly true in the academic, community organizing, and urban Black political circles that Obama was involved with in his early years. Obama gravitated to things "Black" in his early years. Anti-colonialism and Pan-Africanism were a part of the mix in the 1970s but not an exceptionally important part, and not one that lasted very long as a major influence, either for Obama or for most other African-Americans. I'd say that the British Empire looms far larger in Dinesh D'Souza's imagination than in Obama's.

The second problem is that D'Souza makes everything fit in with his big idea, rather than finding the idea in the available evidence. For example, does Obama favor drilling off Brazil's coast and oppose it off the US coast because he wants to weaken America and strengthen Brazil? That's possible, I guess, but another, perhaps more likely answer would be that we have concern about oil spills and all kinds of pesky environmentalists opposing drilling, and Brazil doesn't. I can't say for sure that's the answer, but certainly it's the one I'd consider first before going further afield.

http://reporting.sunlightfoundation.com/2011/white-house-visitor-logs/

Solyndra investor had three White House meetings on energy policy

(snip)

In addition to Solyndra and Unit Corp., Kaiser’s foundation has multimillion dollar investments in domestic energy producers Anadarko Petroleum ($205 million), Sandridge Energy ($33.6 million) and Apache Corp. ($18.5 million), as well as a $6.7 million stake in SolarReserve, which won a $737 million loan guarantee from the Department of Energy.

The nonprofit’s latest SEC filing also showed a $124 million stake in Petroleo Brasileiros , or Petrobas, the Brazilian oil company. In March 2011, President Barack Obama said he wanted the United States to be a major purchaser of Brazilian oil.

Actually Obama is pro-business. Big business. Easier to control, bail out; buy votes from groups.

Small businesses are individual driven. Independent thinkers. Freedom loving. In other words, the enemy.

But small business is the employment incubator. So Obama is backed into a corner. Keep control with high unemployment. He may still pull it off.

Obama is motivated by two ideas: 1. The wealthy got their wealth solely by exploiting the poor and need to have that wealth taken from them and redistributed. 2. The US has for generations been the villain in the world, hogging the earth's resources, overusing its ill gotten power to bully other countries and overly favoring Israel. To make the world love us we must apologize, denigrate ourselves and defer US policy decisions to world groups like the UN.

One more anomaly: A few months ago nasa Chief Charles Bolden announced that from now on the primary mission of America's space agency would be to improve relations with the Muslim world. Come again? Bolden said he got the word directly from the President. "He wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science and math and engineering."

De-election or impeachment of this twerp cannot come too soon.
