That's the gadget that was absolutely useless when you let the little screw that clamped the condenser fall into the cleverly sited hole that would let the #2 screw slip into the distributor/camshaft drive gear. (The driven gear on Dodges was plastic, so you could ruin it if you were clumsy.)

You would then spend two hours trying to fish out the screw with a magnetic retrieval tool, while using up every curse and blasphemy you'd ever heard or invented. Since you only had to replace the points about every year or so, you would forget to stick a piece of tape over the hole.

(While you were at it, you would check the insides of the distributor cap for carbon tracks.)

The fun of being a broke engineering student with a beater car...
