Javel Townsend said his two sons, ages 10 and 11, are crying and hollering in their sleep, calling out their beloved puppys name.
Thats because the Townsend family is grieving the loss of Altgeld, their shepherd/hound mix puppy. Townsend alleges a Round Lake Beach police officer shot and killed the dog earlier this week.
I guess police got fed up with him barking and shot him, Townsend said Thursday. I want to know why they had to shoot him.
Townsend moved into the 1600 block of Lotus Drive about a week before school started. As a new tenant, he was unaware of a hole in the fence enclosing his yard until Altgeld escaped Tuesday.
He heard gun shots around the time he realized Altgeld was missing. He has a second, older dog that did not escape the yard.

Never in my lifetime did I ever expect to see that written down somewhere.
"Mr Redneck, your house smells wonderful...do you own cats?" LOL!!!

Going through life with the nickname Stumpy holds little appeal for me. :-)
Thanks. I thought most of them were either in the backyard or the home itself.
The cop had no right to shoot the dog. It was a criminal act and he should be prosecuted. The family had no right to allow their dog to be outside barking and harming their neighbors and their dog should have been removed from their home or they should have been fined - whatever deterent the law allows.
There is a great way to stop dogs from barking. Only let them out when you are home for a training period. When they bark, respond to their cries by squirting them with the hose. Soon, the dog learns that he barks when he wants to be squirted by the hose. My dog learned in only a few episodes of bark for a squirt. He was the smartest and sweetest dog ever to visit earth.
If your dog digs around bushes lay chicken wire under the mulch. They don’t like that.
I’m concerned that we have an officer who is frightened of a puppy on that police force.
How will he ever manage to do his job against the *real* bad guys if he can’t manage one barking puppy?
dude... do you like to hear yourself talk or what!?? lol...
You don’t know obnoxious barking. My neighbors have neurotic (I mean that) Pappillons that bark non-stop 10 ft from our house and originally, wouldn’t stop it. They’re finally better but they always want to automatically come to the corner 10 ft from our family rm/picnic covered deck and bark. They originally wouldn’t even take them in after 10 min of straight barking, the least 1 can do if you cannot make them stop, just let them bark for an hour - when I was trying to have my baby sleep there (or me napping). Long story but that covers the gist of it.
Sick. First time I've ever said I'm glad you lost your guns. Some people shouldn't have guns.

First of all, I didn’t lose my guns in a boating accident, just a running joke around here. Second, you don’t have to listen to this yappy little POC 24 seven as I do. I complained to the owner and he said that I should just have patients, he would eventually quite down ... that was three months ago.
If I really wanted to shoot this dog, it would be dead.
quite = quiet
