Occupiers/99%ers demonstrations vs Tea Party demonstrations (Vanity)
10/2/20111 | self

Posted on 10/02/2011 11:54:27 AM PDT by tomd2

I wanted to start a discussion to compare and contrast the differences and similarities between these public displays and assembles. I say similarities because when you listen to their individual complaints, they are very similar. Government is not responsive. While the Occupiers/99%ers (I dont know what to call them yet) direct their frustration at Wall Streeters and bankers, Tea Partiers direct their frustration at the government. The spontanteous Tea Party demonstrations seem to have developed into a more organized political movement. Also I wonder if there was a Republican in the White House, would the 99%ers direct their demonstrations there?

I read this morning about the 700 demonstrators arrested in NYC. In another thread, I queried if there were ever any arrests at a Tea Party demonstration. The responses all stated that there were no arrests of Tea Partiers ( I dont use the media's derogitory/demeaning term) and they said that the police never had any problems at Tea Party events. I separate out those instances when non-Tea Party people tried to provoke something which the media could then exaggerate. If I am wrong and there have been arrests at Tea Party event, I am sure there were never 700 arrests.

One final observation, in searching Google, Yahoo and Bing I found that the videos about the Tea Party were topped by those from left leaning sources which showed the Tea Party movement in a negative view. I had to narrow my search to find the original videos provided by those attending the spontaneous demonstrations which became known as the Tea Party.

Here's a good example of the “people” involved in this protest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCHg06JUl3Q&feature=player_embedded

Still, I wouldn't underestimate this for the simple reason that it may be used by the PTB for who knows what purposes??

After all, never let a good crisis go to waste, right?

All this needs to do is turn violent, especially in a couple of different cities.

And I think it's going to happen.

There have been arrests at Tea Party events but they were of people assaulting Tea Partyers.

Here's one contrast that should not go unmentioned.

On the Mall after the liberal "One Nation" rally.

On the Mall after Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally.

When I heard that the unions/SEIU were involved, I was sure that ACORN and other ‘community organizers’ would not be far behind. It has the same feel of spontanity as those AIG demonstrations at the executives homes in 2009. While the anarchists would destroy our government, I have to laugh how easily they are manipulated

Either the unions were behind the scenes while this was being promoted, or they have jumped on for a free ride. Like that slob Michael Moore did.

The reason the MSM hasn’t been draped all over the protesters is because they are so without a plan and clueless as to what their own demands are. The MSM wants to protect these miscreants until they get their act together and become a credit to the lean forward commies.

I’ll bet their “message” is being formulated for them now that they’ve sat around in their own pee for the past two weeks and STILL haven’t come up with a coherent message on their own.

These little freaks get high on their anger. That is why they are there. And the free food donated daily don’t hurt them either. I wonder what they would do if the Wall Street big wigs sent them a full on mega buffet to rival any seen in Vegas? Would they refuse to eat?

While their message is anti-goverment, it is definately with a different purpose from the Tea Party.

http://biggovernment.com/lstranahan/2011/10/02/whos-behind-the-occupy-everywhere-faux-tests/

With the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ protests starting the catch on in the media after the arrests at the Brooklyn Bridge and protests in Los Angeles and San Francisco, the Occupy Whatever meme is coming to a city near you. Occupy Dallas! is coming to my town October 6th and I’ll head down there to interview people because that’s what I do. While I was looking up info about the event, I came across a Facebook page that really sums up what is really going on here.

This isn’t a protest against the government.

Not really. The is the guise that it’s under. It’s using the iconography of protest to actually SUPPORT the government status quo – specifically public employees. See, they can’t get a lot of support if they come out and say “Protest to keep out cushy pensions!” because who is going to show up for THAT, right?

Look who is holding the event on civil disobedience.. it’s the North Texas Association of Public Employees – -a group connected to the Steelworkers.

Great video and thank you for posting it.

I think the best quote from that video was: “I am an American first and an African-American second.”

That is how you break down racial barriers that are created by race baiters. Not by playing the blame game and pulling out the race card when someone disagrees with you. Focus on what the point of a debate is....the issue and nothing else.

However, Jackson and Sharpton do not like this because it would lead to their unemployment.

Karl Denninger says this

•Prosecute the banksters.
•Your kids (and those not yet born!) are being told they’ll have to bail out the crooks.
•The “99%” are against those robbing the nation.

http://market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=195248

If the so-called “Tea Party” is going to mean anything at all then it has to get in the middle of this debate and protest movement right now and amplify the voice that represents common ground.

There’s a lot of that common ground. The messages we the people must send are:

•Stop the looting and start prosecuting. Not protesters, banksters. Right now. Fraudclosure, fraudulent lending practices, fraudulent securitization, fraudulent accounting here and abroad. It all must end right now with prosecution both for past and forwardly-committed financial scam sins.

•We will not pay for the bailouts and handouts. Not now, not tomorrow, not ever. Nor will our children and those not yet born. We will withdraw consent through our cessation of taxable work product if the government refuses to meet this demand and claw back every nickel of the transfers it already made. That response is lawful and is, in fact, exactly what happened in Egypt. We will bring it here.

•We are the 99%. Yes, some of us are liberal and some of us are conservative on social issues. On this issue - the rule of law - we are united and we stand as one. This crap stops right now; we’ll fight about the other issues later.

•There is a process for unpayable debts and it’s constitutional. It’s called bankruptcy and it must be available to all with unpayable debts. Period. This means medical debt, it means student loans and it means mortgages. All debts. If you want a demand that will collapse the bankster BS game, that’s the one. You shouldn’t get off if you borrowed foolishly but neither should the lender who lent you money they either knew or should have known you couldn’t repay. No bailouts and no handouts on either side of the ledger.

•We know that pulling the deficit spending and “supports” from under the banksters and housing will cause an economic contraction worse than the 1930s. We know the pension funds are levered up with bank debt that must be haircut severely and that stock prices will fall precipitously if financial institutions are forced to tell the truth and “easy credit” is removed. WE NOT ONLY KNOW THIS, WE ACCEPT IT AND DEMAND THAT IT HAPPEN RIGHT NOW ANYWAY. Why? Because we are Americans. We make mistakes. We accept the possibility of bankruptcy for ourselves when we make mistakes but we demand that the jackass on the other side of the desk gets the same punishment for making a bad loan we get for taking one out. We want to buy houses when they’re cheap just like we want to buy DVD players when they’re cheap. We want American industry to provide jobs, not jobs for Chinese who were tending rice-paddies with the “profits” flowing to executives while Americans go jobless on the dole. We accept that realignment and re-industrialization of America will be painful but the fact remains that wealth disparity that comes from ripping people off is bad while wealth disparity that comes from being inventive and industrious is good — the latter is how we make progress and the latter are the people who we want to have the money to hire us, not the former!

•We demand that the “cheap money” policies, which in fact are really nothing more than bailouts and handouts across the board along with protectionism for the bankster class and those who offshore jobs, end right now. This means no more negative real interest rates anywhere on the curve and a true zero inflation target with criminal penalty teeth in the law. We’re prepared to back this up with the sort of durable protest that we see in NYC and elsewhere and we will expand it as we’re able and as is required until the above demands are met.

•We demand tax reform that results in nobody getting a free ride and nobody having loopholes they can exploit. Whatever we do for a tax system the instructions must fit on one 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of paper and be presumptively correct under law when followed. Your “return”, if you have to file one, must fit on a postcard. Corporate taxation must be similarly simple and presumptive. We demand that the government bring in via taxes every dollar it wishes to spend in programs in the present tense, not borrowing from the future. We can and will have the debate over exactly what those services are in the public square, as we should, and render our opinions in the voting booth. We will not tolerate one more day of deficit spending. Period.

sounds good

I’m a 60s + year old Tea Party fart who has served this country 40 + years ago and I’m thinking of joining the protesters. I don’t see this demonstration as leftist at all. I see it as a REQUIREMENT to take back the USA from the thieves who have stolen it because they control our politicians.

It is going to take a million pissed off Americans on the street to get the attention of the political elite before anything is changed. I agree with Karl Denninger and many others in the TP. It somewhat outrages me to see how these banksters have trashed the economy, then were bailed out on our dime, then were given bonuses and tax cuts, and not one of them has paid the price for their criminal actions, but the rest of us have.

The Fed makes sure that their Wall Street cronies gets their bread buttered by keeping CDs and interest rates at near zero.

I agree with you and your sentiment. That is what confused me and why I posted this tread.

These demonstrators have the same complain as the Tea Party, that the government takes our money and gives it to their crony bankers. But when you dig deeper as some of the links provided,
http://kleinonline.wnd.com/2011/10/02/wall-street-agitators-target-u-s-capitalism-brooklyn-bridge-shut-down-radicals-training-for-confrontation/
they are just useful idiots following comunity organizers like ACORN/SEIU.
They have co-oped the Tea Party message is the point.

One other thing I read, Charlie Rangel showed up at the NY protest and was told to get out because he is part of the problem, not the solution.
