Honestly, I find it extremely disappointing. Mostly because it confirms to me that people of all ideologies are pretty much equally capable of falling into cult like behavior. Part of me always assumed that conservatives were mostly too smart for that considering we are more the rugged individualists, but seeing Sarah's fanatical followers is just a reminder that human nature is what it is and people of all stripes can become blinded by a personality to the point they lose all ability to be rational.
No politician, even our favorites are above criticism. When they screw up, we should say so. When they say dumb things or make mistakes, we should be willing to call them out. For example, I thought Perry looked like a good option but have no problem attacking his miserable debate performances and expressing concerns about his inability to communicate effectively. You rarely see even constructive criticism of Palin from her supporters here and certainly not on sites like C4P (where you'd just be banned for such heresy). In fact, they react with outrage at the tiniest perceived slight. Yes, Palin has been ripped apart often unfairly and in the most vile manner, so I can sort of see the reason for some of the persecution complex - but her fanatics just take it way over the top and to the point they think she can do no wrong. It's just disappointing to watch.
And ConservativeGG is owed a sincere apology by those who have been flaming her.
But why was Palin allowed to continue her weird non-campaign for so long? Why did her supporters only fawn on her, every time she slighted them?
If I may, I will cite some words from Ayn Rand, a great woman and a great thinker:
"The hardest thing to explain is the glaringly evident which everybody had decided not to see." -- Ayn Rand
