Maybe they can just swap which side he plays for at the end of each quarter?
An alternate would be to let him play with the older-kids team, but that carries more risk of injury.

Yes, I think there’s better ways than to just tell the kid to stop scoring.

I like the idea of him switching sides every once in awhile. Maybe it will inspire the other teams to improve.
In our area, he would just switch to a “traveling” club team, with other intense players.
