The idea that the Bill or Rights restricts the Fed govt and not the states is bunk. The first Amendment clearly is a set of freedoms FOR the people, freedom of religion, speech, etc. The second is the same. Now, I do believe the states have the ability to regulate gun ownership - registration, waiting periods, etc, but restriction of ownership I believe is not allowed, especially after the recent USSC ruling.

The Constitution, the Bill of Rights, protects Free Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom from Unreasonable Search, Right to Bear arms, etc.
A state can not take away the Right to a Jury Trial, for example.
