The long September Red Sox slide ends in a loss to the Orioles, and New York blows a 7 run lead to Tampa Bay. Did the Yankees take a dive for the Rays, the wild card winners to keep the Sox out of the playoffs?
If the Yankees were taking a dive, they wouldn’t have led 7-0.
Also I would think the Yankees would have preferred Boston in the playoffs, rather than the Rays...I know I would have much rather had the Rangers playing Boston than Tampa.
The Yankees played their Scranton-Wilkes Barre squad tonight.
If Girardi cared about winning, Rivera would have pitched the ninth.
As for the Red Sox collapse, well, that’s just another Festivus miracle.
Giving the intense hatred that the Yankees have for Boston, I rather expected that a bp pitch would end up over the fence. I think I was right.
I'm sure NY would have preferred to see a Boston team in the playoffs with that was in the process of an epic choke rather than a Tampa team that had the character to gut it out when it counted.
Hats off to the Rays, the deserving team pulled through.
