Am a Red Sox fan and a baseball fan. That means that while I feel bad about how this yr turned out, I will watch and/or listen to the playoffs till the very end. Pick teams. Hope perhaps some teams who haven’t won before get a chance.
Red Sox fans: at least we aren’t the team who hasn’t won since 1908 (and I do hope Cubbies can taste champagne someday!)
Even despite the loss it was an interesting game. Frustrating at times, joyful at others. I was at work and at one point kept going back and forth between Bos-Bal and NYY-Tampa Bay.
As it turned out the end of the Bos game came just a couple minutes before the TB game ended.
The wildcard situation, etc. brought things down to the
final day. For those who say baseball is boring:
it can be anything but!
Bart Giamatti, a Red Sox fan:
:”It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped, and summer was gone.”
Spoken like a true Red Sox fan. But you are the team that blew a 9-game lead in 23 days.
I've been "blessed" with having to work with a guy that grew up in Boston. He is a total ass when they (the Red Sox and the Patriots) win and he's even worse when they lose. He was strutting around a couple of weeks ago knowing... just totally confident that the Red Sox were going to the playoffs again. Afterall, 7 of their last 10 games were against "the worst team in baseball".
And all I have been hearing for the past two weeks is "I can't believe "we" can't beat the worst team in baseball..." Guess what? The Red Sox have been beating the worst team in baseball for the past month. Themselves. It was an epic choke job. One for the record books. The best thing Red Sox fans can do is to realize it and get over it. It happens.
Oh, and by the way.... The Orioles playing the spoiler role? I called it last week. ;-)
And now, my co-worker can focus all his passion on his "greatest football team ever"! Um, that is "the greatest football team ever" to uh, blow a 21-point lead...
(LOL!, It hasn't been a good week for him... he's a little grumpy.)
