She voluntarily becomes a slave to a fear that is not even hers. This is the mind of a sub-7 year old child, a first-second grader, afraid of a boogeyman in the closet.

You speculation that Liza has become swept up by this nonsense seems unfounded.

In brief random people for whom the word "book" means Facebook are repeating rumours. The owners and manager of the shop are thinking "These people are crazy"

She was speaking of two other folks (one a customer, and one who worked at the bank she used) and their fears in the article, not of any fears she may have had.
