Generally speaking, I don’t know why Hollywood insists on inserting fiction into movies based on historical events when the facts themselves would make fantastic films. Midway and the Patriot are examples. There was no reason at all to embellish the truth.

About the only historical accuracy in “The Patriot” is the costuming.

The hero in the movie “The Patriot” was a amalgamation of Francis Marion, Andrew Pickens, Thomas Sumter and Daniel Morgan! All true heroes whose stories are more exciting then anything a Hollywierd writer could dream up.

I know a lot of people here on FR loved that movie, but it basically annoyed because those true patriots didn't get their due. Also there was a character played by Chris Cooper is clearly Light Horse Harry Lee the father of Robert E. Lee. Can't give a Lee his due can we Hollyweird! In short a highly inaccurate movie on the Revolutionary War.
