Why The Media Kept Thad McCotter Out of the Polls, the Debates, and Now, the Race for the Nomination

What you missed because of the Media's exclusion of Thad McCotter

TOPICS: Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: mccotter; primaries; socialsecurity
You really have to wonder why a Congressman who has been a House committee chair, who has introduced legislation to save Social Security that was scored by the Social Security Actuary to reduce spending by $8,3 Trillion, can be left out of, not just the debates, but the polls that are citted to get you IN the debates.

Former Utah Governor Jon Huntsmann is a liberal Republican who does everything but bend over for the Communist Chinese. His poll numbers stink, but he's always included in the debates. Thad McCotter was the MOST critical of all the candidates when it comes to our dealings with the Communist Chinese. McCotter's out, Huntsmann stays. Please read the accompanying article to get a brief look at what the public missed in the debates.

For crying out loud, McCotter just endorsed Romney.

Lesser-known pols usually have to show up in open-ended questions early in the campaign before they are listed for voters explicitly. Also, many House members are chairs of such and such a committee. Finally, obnoxious as he is, Huntsman has had the funding and hired the staff to stay in the race—McCotter had really done neither.

Didn’t McCotter run over to endorse Mitt moments after he quit? Most people didn’t even know he was in the race.
What was that all about? Money from Mitt? Another Romney stalking horse?

His “conservative” credentials have to be seriously questioned.

So far in this primary run-up, McCotter was the single most slimed, and under-rated Republican. He is someone we will be seeing more of, count on that.

On the other hand, Huntsman turns out to have been a complete. Total. Meaningless marshmallow. What a waste of air.

Bring back McCotter, dump Huntsman.

McCotter was GREAT in opposing TARP, but he later supported the theft of our tax dollars by Government Motors and the UAW Labor Mob and proposed a ridiculous bill to make pet care expesnes tax deductible.

He is good spokesperson, with a great sense of humor, and strong on some issues, but he is not a real conservative.

You ALL missed the point. Regardless of what you THINK about Thad McCotter, he was a candidate that would bring depth, knowledge, and a clear understanding of the issues, to a debate process that is sorely lacking in all three. He was basically BLACKBALLED by the media. The bottom line is, if you don’t fit the MEDIA TEMPLATE, you’re not getting in. So, we get “HAIR 1” AND “HAIR 2”.

May I also point out that, if McCotter had been included in the debates from the beginning, the field would be much smaller by now.

You like McCotter, hey I get that. The process is what it is, though, and McCotter has zero public recognition, and he has only improved that slightly during the whole campaign. The ones who host the debate get to set the rules on who gets to participate, and it may be “lame”, but that’s the game you have to play if you want to win.

I remember when pols would build their name recognition long before the campaign started, or they wouldn’t even have considered getting in the race. Even then, a lot of them had to run for President at least twice before they would get enough attention to be taken seriously. Now, we have Congressmen (I repeat for emphasis, Congressmen!) who 99% of the public wouldn’t know from Adam, jumping in with no real organization behind them and expecting play with the “big boys”. Sorry, that’s not the way it works.

The “is what it is” is the wrong attitude. We can’t continue to allow the MEDIA to pick our nominees or our President. McCotter wasn’t even included in the polls that were cited to get in the debates. He is of a superior intellect, has great oratorical skills, and a total understanding of the issues that we, as a country, face. So the voting public doesn’t get to see him because he doesn’t fit the MEDIA profile? This must stop becuase it will continually deprive this country of the leaders that it needs.

“So the voting public doesn’t get to see him because he doesn’t fit the MEDIA profile?”

Hey, you want him in a debate that bad? Host your own instead of complaining here where it can do no good. That’s the American way. Blaming the media when McCotter should have known the game and apparently didn’t play it well enough is just silly.

You’re okay with “he should have known the game”? You had FOX overrule the IOWA Republican party on whether or not McCotter could participate. He was TOLD by the Party that if he paid the $18,000 entry fee to the Straw Poll, he could participate in the debate. FOX said no!

In the subsequent debates, the media outlets were citing poll numbers to set the criteria for participation. McCotter was NOT included in nearly 80 % of the polls used.

During the PONZI SCHEME DEBATE, McCotter introduced legislation that SAVES SOCIAL SECURITY and it was TOTALLY IGNORED by the media. They even complained that nobody ever does anything to try and fix Social Security. McCotter introduces legislation that does, and they don’t cover it. He accurately described it as “Kafkaesque”

If you don’t think that the MEDIA is running this show, you’re not paying attention.
