It’s completely unbelievable that he would say that to an entertainer. Who knows what is in GW’s mind - maybe he thinks that way, maybe not, but to say it publicly to Bennett and not a soul else? C’mon. Bennett might well be suffering from dementia - he might really believe it.
I used to enjoy Bennett’s singing, but now he is very old (85), and confines himself to duets because his sound and wind cannot support a performance on their own. He should give up performing but perhaps he needs the dough.
I don’t doubt that Bush might have admitted he made a mistake somewhere or other, maybe even within hearing of Tony Bennett. That he interpreted that to mean the entire Iraq war was a mistake is the product of his own deranged fantasy.

He’s 85 years old. My paternal grandpa, a great man who died at 92, said some crazy stuff at age 82, let alone 85.
