The contractor told him that the building codes stated if a board had nail or screw holes in them, the holes had to be cut off if they wanted to use the boards. We found a lot of 8’ 2X4 and 2X6 with a few holes in the ends.

I don't recall seeing that in my local building codes when I read them, but they did say reclaimed lumber had a different strength calculation or something. It's been a couple of months, and my pdf reader is borked so I can't pull that up to check. Thank you, you've just given me another place to find materials for the house I'm trying to build :)

I know it is in our town’s building code. My neighbor is a contractor. The reclaimed lumber is supposed to be stronger, since they cut out knots, cut splines into the ends and glue it back together.
