... many mammals, such as the mongoose, adults may delay their own reproduction to help raise the offspring of others.

Approximately how do they do that? Do they put on little condoms? Rhythm? Or do they use a more proven method, like Not Doing "It?"

In “Meerkat Manor,” the junior females weren’t supposed to reproduce, because the group was supposed to be dedicated to supporting the offspring of the dominant breeding pair ... but the younger females kept running off with strange males and getting knocked up anyway.

I suspect something similar happens with the mongeese.
