police officer shot and killed their pet dog despite warnings not to go on the property.

The officer surely went back there because of those warnings. To him the warnings were the announcement of an opportunity to shoot a live stand-in for a human being according to his training. These incidents are far too common to not be part of training. You get a call anywhere for any reason, if there is a dog present, shoot the dog for practice. It will then be much easier to shoot an unoffending person when it becomes politically necessary.

The cop-dog thing is getting to be quite cliche. It doesn’t make me see police in a good light.

If it reaches the point in this coutry that cops are shooting unoffending persons for political reasons,then bullets will be going in both directions.
