A few things to consider:

1. The first stimulus spent $30 billion on highways. That's it - of $840 billion, just 3.6% was spent on actual infrastructure. And of that amount allocated, just 1/3rd has actually been spent so far - basically nothing has actually been spent on infrastructure.

It was a union/State bailout package, NOT an infrastructure package no matter how it was pitched.

2. We have deteriorating highways, airports, and bridges, and with the floods and damage from earlier this year we have a lot more. IF the Government is going to spend any funds, then spend it on something that will actually keep our economy rolling - roads and bridges. They need to be maintained, they need to be rebuilt - it's part of what keeps what little economic activity we have actually rolling.

Cantor's right - SMART spending on infrastructure - replacing damaged roads and bridges, expanding airports - is a good use of any spending the Government's going to do. That's what Government is SUPPOSED to do - not spend it on welfare, or unemployment insurance, or subsidized housing.

Again, I should read the thread before posting, you are right and said it better than I did.
