The viewing public might be split on Chaz Bono's participation on the upcoming season of "Dancing With the Stars," but the way he sees it, his inclusion on the show is just what the doctor ordered for this country.
Reacting to the criticism he's faced sine the Season 13 cast was announced last week, Bono told ABC News, "It's made me realize I'm really glad I'm doing this, because America really needs to see this."
The 42-year-old only child of Cher and Sonny Bono added, "You know, it just kind of shows why for me it's important to be on the show, because so little still is known about what it means to be transgender. And there's so many just completely inaccurate stereotypes and thoughts that people have."
Bono, who was born Chastity Bono and underwent gender-reassignment surgery last year, ignited passions among "Dancing With the Stars" fans on Monday with the announcement that he'd be competing on the series. Many of the show's faithful expressed their displeasure over the choice on the series' message board.
"When I heard that Chaz Bono was going to be on, I was sick," went one typical anti-Bono tirade. "Not that I have anything personally again her/him, I just don't want that lifestyle choice continually flaunted in the media esp ABC."

LOL...Never watched the damn show...

Yes, and I’ve also heard that her parents fought constantly. Then they divorced and she was molested. Doing surgery on such a person is criminal, imho.
If they could scrape up some tanna leaves, it would be more entertaining to see its mummy perform.
S/He can fool herself, but she (and her DNA) can’t fool God.
Did you notice that they paired Chaz with Lacey Schwimmer..who's a very big-boned, muscular, athletic-style dancer..hardly a coincidence, methinks...
I definitely have the feeling that her entire childhood was one big nightmare. I remember an interview with Cher some years back after Chastity defined herself as a lesbian. Cher basically said that she always thought that Chastity would give her “grandchildren”... she wouldn’t have to be married though. I remember thinking then, “Thank goodness she wasn’t MY Mom”. I personally hoped that Chastity could have gotten some sort of intense psychological help with those issues.
I hope that she gets some help. She’s 42 and has at least half of her life ahead of her. At one time, she was a very attractive woman, and could be again, but at the moment she’s unhealthy mentally and physically.
How long before we find this exploited freakshow DEAD?
When does the show “transgender live sex with the stars” air?
2012, 2014? Can’t be too far off.
“... how long before we find this exploited freakshow dead?”
Personally, I think this is a death knell to Chastity (I refuse to call her Chaz). If “this” surgery doesn’t make her happy... her life worth living (and it won’t) then what else is there? IMHO
“Did he have a Special Purpose attached already?”
She/he had an Adadictomy and the most problems he/she has is to swing it left or right? n/s
I don’t guess it was life in the public spotlight. More than likely it was the parties and the people who were privy to her during those formative years in her life. Mom left dad, married a heroin addict musician and who know what went on around her and to her..
There have been incidents where those who are post surgical have been extremely disillusioned and depressed when they realized that surgery wasn’t the magical cure that they thought it would be. Unfortunately, the repair of this type of surgery is expensive and not terribly effective, particularly for men.
I reads that ‘Chaz’ deludes herself with the belief that ‘all babies in the womb start out as females. Then the hormones kick in and some become male’. Honestly, I don’t know where they get this stuff. Sperm are X or Y and THAT determines female or male. She needed intense psychiatric intervention and she got political correctness. Very sad situation. Every cell in her body is XX in the 46 chromosomes. She can NEVER be an XY. No matter what she does to herself.
“... post surgical have been extremely disillusioned and depressed”.
Makes perfect sense, doesn’t it? After the hormone treatment, the surgery to remove/remake one’s natural organs into the opposite sex.. and then what? Total joy? A feeling of freedom? Happiness? No... probably just the opposite. It is healing the inside of one’s mind and soul that matters. IMHO
Yes, I know that her parents fought night and day - particularly when the marriage was breaking up. A close relative of mine was a writer on the show. He said Cher was a dreadful person; Sonny was a nice guy to work for.
Sonny made Cher. He took an inarticulate young girl with a pointed head and turned her into a singing star. He wrote all the songs and produced all the music (he was a music executive in his early years). He pushed and pushed Cher to stardom. Of course, she never had a good word to say about him until she actually upstaged his current wife at his funeral.
I don't know what it's like to go down to the Dunkin Donuts naked, screaming I have been abducted by aliens either. Nor do I know what it's like to hear voices in my head...or what it's like to walk into a store and not be compelled to shoplift...or what it's like to gamble my mortgage payment away ...but, hell, if we need to be normalizing any of the above, clearly, mentally illnesses or personality disorders as normal, socially acceptable or a lifestyle choice.
Agreed. She does need to be healed from the inside out. Finding God might be the best way to begin. She’s a troubled soul.
