WHY IS IT...

Why is it the women most desiring a huge fancy white wedding are the ones least deserving of it?

If this isn’t UT material, I don’t know what is.

Don’t worry, I doubt Kim Kardashian stays married long. She apparently forgot to mention she had a previous marriage to her groom oh and he probably didn’t know about that video she made that is online now too.... I think its called “Jam it up” (apparently referring to anal sex)

He is probably finding out just how skanky she is.

My wedding took ten minutes and we paid the preacher a $100 bonus.

We paid the preacher nothing!

He's my dad (Lol) and he's a pastor. Got married in his back yard.

Nineteen years and counting!

Last month while I was donating blood I overheard the tech/nurses discussing one of their upcoming weddings.

An Obama fan, probably @ 5 or 6 months pregnant, was bragging she was able to buy her wedding cake with her EBT card - for $410.

Simply amazing....

Sounds like my wedding. Only I wore sweatpants, it was cold at 7 AM up near Lake Tahoe at one of those marriage for $100 places. We had gotten engaged the night before, around midnight.

My wife’s father married us too. She in a dress, me in a suit. 4th of July so we had the reception in the basement of the church, fireworks centerpieces. No one smoked.

Apparently no one disagrees with your premise.

I'd like to see a chart showing wedding cost vs. marriage longevity.

When my son and his wife were preparing for marriage, I reminded my son that our family does not do the cake smashing routine. He told his future wife that they would not be doing that after cutting the cake. I don’t think she was happy about our “tradition”, but she accepted that it wasn’t going to happen.

I cannot even count the number of family and friends that came up to me later to tell me that they were so happy to see a non-cake-smashing event during the cutting of the wedding cake.

What do you mean? Did you have a bad breakup?

For my wedding, my parents spent a lot of money because my dad was a Chicago lawyer and wanted to invite all his friends, etc.

I opted for a $300 over-the-rack dress, and was very happy. I can’t understand spending thousands on a dress you’ll wear once in your life.

And I made sure my bridesmaids had reasonably-priced dresses that they could wear for other occasions.

Had a big white wedding, I deserved. Boys choir, strings, bagpipes. The cake was cheesecake. I had a great time, so did he. Coming up on our 21st :)

There is nothing wrong with a big wedding as long as you work at the marriage.

And I would have been first in line to shake your hand.

Thanks for your post, and your "old-fashioned" commitment to honor your spouse.

I’ll go against the grain! My wife is the only daughter, and she lived and grew up in New Jersey. I thought the wedding was over the top and too much money was being spent. But her mom told me it was their money and to to stay out of it! (Nicely though!) Limo, big reception, lots of bridesmaids, a decent dress, etc. In a small town church where we both were members.

It wasn’t a “money is no option thing”, but I grew up in the Midwest, so was used to a reception in the church basement with meatballs, three bean salad and jello. Spending $35 per person for a reception was just foolish I thought. It was quite the deal when all my relatives flew out for a long weekend of rehearsal dinners, partys, and the wedding. They weren’t used to it either.

We all had a great time! 22 years ago this fall. (And no cake mashing either. Although a bit of frosting did get on my finger, which I touched to her nose - and then promptly cleaned up with the napkin in my other hand).

There are statics somewhere that show doing that to each other nearly guarantees a divorce somewhere upward of 85%.

I don't like that either FC.

On a related note, I've been to two Mexican kids' birthday parties within the last year. One was for a teenager and one was for a baby. At both they jammed the kids' faces into the whole cake. Now to be fair, the one for the teenager did have a separate cake for the guests thank goodness, but they didn't for the baby one. I don't particularly want to eat a cake that's had a kid's face jammed into it--call me funny.
