DM/CL sort of seemed to be Easy Rider without the bikes.
Same nihilistic/anti-establishment tone...but with a weird chick with swollen lips....LOL
[but lord I loved that car]
Has anybody mentioned The Warriors, yet?
;]
Oh. The Warriors. (sigh)
I loved that flick, and I may have had a serious crush on Michael Beck.
They’re in the same genre, but they’re nothing else alike. EASY RIDER was overtly about the meaning of America at the time—’trying to find America’ and all—while DM/CL was just an action/comedy with a ‘with-it’ ending.
Most comedies are anti-establishment, but it’s usually very comfortable, and doesn’t carry much bite. EASY RIDER was very up-front in terms of the scenes with the anti-hippie types and Nicholson’s lawyer character.
I recently got the Criterion set about BBS films and have been enjoying the movies and the extras—EASY RIDER, KING OF MARVIN GARDENS (I like parts of it, but this one is just dull to me on the whole), FIVE EASY PIECES, DRIVE HE SAID (a real find), LAST PICTURE SHOW (a flatout great movie).
