Perhaps. Still, the invention of a syllabary, essentially an independent written language, done just from the knowledge that it was possible, is an act of genius.

Seyquoia was half white and totally rejected his white trader father who abandoned him and his mother. He would have nothing to do with whites, gave up his white name and refused to speak English. He was a brilliant man. As I recall, this was the first time in history that an alphabet had been devised by one man in a single generation. It is still used by the Cherokee communications media in Oklahoma.
