The English language has some wonderfully collective nouns for various groups of animals.

I assume it's just a curiosity. Some of these terms are so obscure that they probably are rarely used.

I'm waiting for some liberal to become indignant that we are using these terms without finding out first what the various kinds of animals, birds, or insects feel about the terms.

Well, I have often been accused of being a liberal, and I have to say that I do know how some animals feel about some of these terms. For example, I have two hounds, and I can tell you they don’t think much of being called “A mute of hounds.” There is nothing mute about them.

I agree. I wish my Walker hound was mute about two in the morning when he decides to tree a coon. We let him run and enjoy himself.

“Congress” is an interesting term for a grouping of baboons, but a more modern term for them would be “flash mob”.

It’s a wonderful book. I’ve given dozens of it as gifts. And we sometimes make up our own terms: a “gutter” of drunks. A “flight” of pultroons.

The possibilities are endless. LOL.
