There was an article in our local paper about a 58 year old man who spent his mother’s life savings, when he was given power of attorney. The money was supposed to pay for her care and that of her other son who is disabled.

They said that the man spent the money on a house, landscaping, a three diamond ring, and braces for his wife, as well as private school tuition (I assume for the wife’s children).

The man was ordered to make restitution and spend 180 days in jail.

It was obvious from the ring and the braces that the guy also bought himself a young wife.

He did indeed. However, if he was legally bound to use the money for the care of his mother and her disabled son, then he deserves to be jailed and made to pay restitution.
