Anthony Bourdain: Paula Deen is 'most dangerous person to America'
Chicago Tribune News ^ | Aug 19, 2001 | Hal Boedeker

That Anthony Bourdain sure knows how to get people talking. The "No Reservations" host sounds off on other food stars in TV Guide Magazine.

He has the strongest words for Paula Deen. "The worst, most dangerous person to America is clearly Paula Deen," Bourdain says. "She revels in unholy connections with evil corporations and she's proud of the fact that her food is f------ bad for you [...] plus, her food sucks."

Anthony Bourdain has obviously jumped aboard the Food Police wagon and has defined the phrase: "jumped the shark." Paula Deen breaks all of their picky rules by cooking traditional food the way Mom cooks. These uppity yahoos don't want that. They want all that loving goodness in a plate replaced with the government approved swill.

Bourdain makes a living with a show called Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations. It is a travel show that examines the foods of native cultures in locations around the world. In that show you rarely see him get his pants in a wad about the food he ate. Bourdain's comments completely contradict what he presented on his show. There was no holds barred in the ingrediants and they were the best food he ever ate. The food had to be good because the recipes came down from generations of cooks; all with high calories from fats and sugars, and all from generations of cooking perfection. The foods you saw on the show were from the Paula Deens of the world, bringing another generation into the Garden of Eden of gastronomical goodness.

Could Anthony Bourdain be experiencing a more dangerous bout of depression than what a trip to Paula Deen's dining room table could ever bring?

Bourdain used heroine and Deen’s accent is fake.

Thanks for posting Paula Deen’s timely comment about Bourdain’s strange criticism. Bourdain does not make sense. He will eat foods in foriegn countries that would be the equivalent to what Deen cooks, and say it was the most incredible dish he ever ate.

If you follow Paula Deen’s cooking techniques, you get cooking secrets that give you mastery of some incredible dishes that you would never get anywhere. She has increased my cooking skills exponentially.

"I know where my money is.

Don't let that one episode fool you. Bourdain is as stone cold a liberal a-hole as they come.

He spent part of that episode wondering how he could even get along with someone like Ted Nugent.

I stopped watching that idiot forever when he bashed the Marines while they were saving his worthless POS hide in Syria. He's a class A puke.

Bad for you? Who does Tony think he is? F——— Michelle-Antoinette? One trash talking Leftist celebrity chef trashing the others.
All these celebrity chefs are into PC green crap and are Obama worshippers. Paula Deen’s food is better than her disgusting slobbering over Jimmy Carter!
Sandra Lee is Governor Andrew Cuomo’s live-in girlfriend.

I’ve never tried making one of her recipes for myself, but I did eat at her restaurant once - just awful.

"She revels in unholy connections with evil corporations..."

I think he may have convinced me to look up the work by this Paula Deen person.

“Well the guy forgets that what she cooks is based on what is cooked in the American south.

IMHO, she makes a mockery of Southern cooking. She has become a parody. I’m sure her origins were true Southern cooking but what she has done is turn it into a big joke. The time she iced a cake with lard I almost threw up.”

Agree 100%. It’s parody. Maybe all the competition between these cable food shows and networks are causing the cooks to do over-the-top stuff to garner ratings. I hate to think people from other places would believe that the exaggerated southern accent and outlandish behavior on that show is reality, As for the food, we had so many and such variety of fresh fruits and vegetables from huge spring and fall gardens (two growing seasons a year down here) we hardly had room left to eat that much of the rich recipes Paula Dean features on her show. Holidays, and special occasions excepted.

Peanut oil is good because it does not break down at high temperatures. You can keep it in a deep fryer for months. Saffola oil is also good (and probably better for you) for high temperatures but it does not have the good taste of peanut oil.

I used a digital, temperature controlled deep fat fryer. With it I can monitor temperature fluctuations instantly as I add my food to fry. It lets me know that I have added too much food in the fryer, and to use a smaller batch. By controlling the cooking temperature, you keep the oil from saturating into the food/coating. At the correct temperature the outer surface is seared and steam from the food drives out the oil, preventing excessive oil saturation.

I microwave my cut potatoes before french frying. After cutting them to size (I use a professional french fry cutter for perfect uniformity), I toss them in a little oil to prevent them from sticking together. I put them in a criss cross pattern (to keep them from sticking together) on a plate and microwave them until they just start to get soft. My microwave has a automatic setting for baked potatoes and it does my potatoes perfectly. This technique gives the fries a creamy interior without having to overcook the potatoes for the desired crispness. It gives them a very appealing quality.

People have tired of his self-loathing American schtick for some time.

I guess this is the best way for the attention whore to gin up some controversy to get noticed.

He’s no Andrew Zimmern who is not only interesting, but a genuinely nice guy with good taste.

To be fair, here in Florida Walmart sells a Paula Deen branded sour cream bundt cake that's just awesome. You gotta get to the bakery early though because they sell out fast leaving all the other bundt cakes for the stragglers.

OMG I didn’t hear that one, if that was the case I wouldn’t turned off her show wayyyyyyy before. Most of the Food Network personalities are big libs anyway.

You are right. Bourdain does not make sense. Someone probably did pee in his cereal bowl that morning.

As a person who likes to cook, I watch many different cooking personalities including Emeril and Paula Deen.

As a rule, unless it is abslutely necessary, I rarely follow a recipe exactly as given. Instead, I use the recipe as a jumping off point for my own creations that are tailored to my particular tastes. That is what culinary artistry is really all about.

If I don't happen to like a particular ingredient in a recipe, I do not feel it incumbent upon myself to publicly trash and insult the person who wrote the recipe.

In my book, the only one who came out of this "peeing contest" looking like a jerk was Bourdain. Because in the last two years, Paula Deen and her partners have not been merely preening themselves in the mirror of some species of narcissistic celebrity status. They have fed more than 10 million hungry people by bringing meat to food banks.”

Doesn't that sound "dangerous!"

By the way, one of Paula Deen's most fascinating creations is her Turducken.

I had read in some article written by a conservative about having to deal with the left wing crowd including some celebrities that they had come in contact with. He went on to write about being at a dinner party where Mr. Bourdain was present and overheard him saying rather boisterously that he absolutely hated George Bush. I wouldn’t put my money there either.
