At our house we call Ina Garten the “Big Fat Contessa.” Forgive me.
You could also title this “New Yorkers, is there anything they don’t know?”
(2) Paula Deen is not just a liberal - she is a hardcore leftist. Bourdain, who is a typical old-school NY liberal Democrat type - looks conservative compared to that lunatic. I say lunatic because she is crazy - she didn't leave her house for 20 years and she blames it on Reagan. She has described Jimmy Carter as a wonderful president. She makes Hilary Clinton seem rational.
(3) Her food is garbage. I ate at her Savannah restaurant, and it was maybe one cut above Old Country Buffet. The very next day I had fried chicken with homemade pepper sauce and biscuits at a diner outside of Jonesboro and it was ten times better and 75% cheaper than Lady And Sons.
(4) Real cooks don't shill for cheap packaged presliced ham on TV. If it's down home cooking it should be from home. Plus, on those lousy commercials she pushes anti-American propaganda along with subpar ham - her cockamamie story about how the white settlers didn't know how to smoke meat until the Indians taught them how. Are people really stupid enough to believe that nonsense?
(5) Bourdain is obviously soft on illegal immigration - but the point he's trying to make is that plenty of celebrity chefs on TV (including Paula Deen) never set foot inside the kitchens of their famous restaurants - that if you go to one of these places and have a fabulous $1000 meal, it was probably cooked by some guy from Honduras getting paid $10 an hour. Bourdain prides himself on the fact that when he was the chef at Les Halles he cooked meals for customers there every day as a line chef. And he should be proud of that.
Where did you get the “I say lunatic because she is crazy - she didn’t leave her house for 20 years and she blames it on Reagan” from. I have never seen anything that said that. Her Agoraphobia ended in ‘86 so she would have been home bound in about ‘66.
I’ve noticed that too. He seemed to be following Hunter S. Thompsans’ path in Las Vegas: complete with a red caddy convertable and drinks for breakfast.
I’m 100% in accord with you!
Hey, where’s all your foodie recipe thread buddies?
While we’re on the subject of TV chefs, the only, and I mean ONLY chef on TV worth watching, EVER, was ‘Dave the Cook’ on Northern Exposure!
Have you ever watched my cooking show? It’s called Manifold Destiny in a Volt...
Agree. Can’t stand big mouth Paula.
I did see that one. It was a hoot!
Answer my question first.
A little bit of HIS s&^% goes a long way!
I saw it too. It was hilarious. I do love Bourdain and his books are great.
I watch a few cooking shows to be entertained not to learn to cook as I’m married to the company chef. Guy Fieri is in his hometown of Ferndale Ca. He comes home every year for the Humboldt County Fair where he got his start with a fresh Pretzel Cart. I heard him doing a promo on KINS radio for the fair this morning. He gives away a free cart to some Ferndale school student. His parents have Dave’s Saddlery in Frendale
Would you rephrase the question so even a cave man can understand it...
He drives an awesome Camaro too!
You have no idea who ‘Dave the Cook’ is, do you.
I’ll go one better - I’ll give you the obvious answer in the form of a suggestion:
You should ping your recipe thread buddies!
I’m not a big Bourdain fan, although I occasionally watch his shows, the ones where he goes to locations I have an interest in (like Southeast Asia). Personally I prefer Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Foods. Bourdain is basically an alcoholic and it’s surprising in this policically correct day and age that he can get away with being a drunk on a TV show (I guess because it’s a cable show and because he’s an aging, hippy liberal). Not since the days of Otis of Mayberry has there been such acceptance and even embrace of a “town drunk” type on television. But I knew Otis, Otis was a friend of mine, and Mr. Bourdain, you sir, are no Otis.
