A man was killed Monday afternoon as he disassembled equipment used for last weekends Fiesta rodeo and horse show at Earl Warren Showgrounds.
According to Santa Barbara County Fire spokesperson Brian Hayden, the victim identified as 49-year-old David Mann of Thousand Oaks was crushed when a 1,500 pound-monitor fell from a forklift on top of him at around 1 p.m. Mann was owner of Thousand Oaks-based JumboScreen Co.
Workers were able to lift the monitor from Mann before rescue crews responded, but medics arrived to find him in respiratory failure. He was transported to Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Hayden said the incident was reported to Cal/OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), which has launched an investigation.
Live by the Jumbotron, die by the Jumbotron...
Horrible, but what classic irony!
Will OSHA now fine the widow?
No doubt California will need new legislation to control this menace.
The bigger they are the harder they fall. What a way to go. What’s he going to tell St. Peter at the pearly gates?
He clearly hadn’t recieved enough training.

It’s not good to crush the boss. I dropped a hammer on one once. But he lived.
Union workforce?
LOL. Sorry but they probably hire non-union to do the actual work. They unions get paid no matter what.
He hates to make him wait but he's just gotta have another cigarette.
Didn’t the inventor of the Segway ride one off a cliff?
LOL! I’m glad someone got it! I was beginning to feel REALLY OLD!
I am more familiar with the Phil Harris version of the song.
He wasn’t the inventor, but he had recently bought the company.
I am more familiar with the Phil Harris version of the song.
I was introduced to the song perhaps 25 years ago by Asleep at the Wheel, but I'm always fascinated by the history of music and I knew that it didn't originate with them. I acquired the original Tex Williams version shortly after hearing Asleep at the Wheel.
