I would add “Question everything your professors tell you about politics, religion, culture, or anything not math and hard science.” Also try to take classes with visiting professors from foreign countries. Not only will you get a different perspective but it’s harder for those in power to brainwash or intimidate foreigners.
Our oldest is venturing forth to her first year in 12 days. I will pass this along for what it’s worth along with a blessing.
So ... what do YOU think that your daughter should study?
Mine is leaving Friday but I’m heading off to Scout camp with my boys in the morning. I just gave it to her. She’s driving 600 miles to get there too.

Thanks...!
Great link..!
Interesting. I vowed to never date a sorority girl because the Greek life is absurdly crazy with drinking and sleeping around.
This is what I posted on FB to my daughter’s circle of friends...preemptive strike against the liberal ambience of the university:

Amen!
Join the debate team.
If you do so... you will be forced to examine and argue different sides of every issue.
If your kid is a conservative... encourage them to do this and write for the college paper.
If you get crappy grades for equal work from a liberal professor and you are an OUT conservative on campus... you can take your work STRAIGHT to the administration and tell them that you are being victimized for your political views.
(Not that this ever happened to me or anything) ;)
Study hard and keep your skivvy’s up.
“Greek life is absurdly crazy with drinking and sleeping around.”
Greeks were a bastion of conservatives at the UVM gulag. Girls in my daughter’s sorority actually practiced tolerance and diversity unlike the communists they were surrounded by.
As for partying, well, my daughter graduated with an alarming knowledge of the many types of martinis.
