I doubt it.
Follow the money: His sponsors have bailed. The Woods delusion is over.
I respectfully disagree. The PGA and network television have so much invested in this guy it is unbelievable.
Just a couple of examples:
Yesterday, the PGA championship website was almost 100% devoted to stories about Woods. This despite the fact that Woods has fallen to #30 in the World Golf Rankings.
Yesterday, The PGA website chose Woods' group as their marquis group to be exclusively followed on their own network prior to TNT's broadcast. As Woods imploded on the golf course, you could here the distress in the announcers' voices as they witnessed the unthinkable.
Today, despite Woods' dismal performance the day before, the PGA website literally had a digital clock counting down the minutes, hours AND seconds until Woods teed off (1:45PM).
Today, as Woods' poor performance continued, TNT chose to broadcast just about every one of his shots at the expense of exposure to the leaders who were some 15 strokes ahead of Woods.
Go to ESPN's website and you will see that any story about Woods, will receive 100s, if not 1000s of comments from readers.
The same thing applies to the Yahoo Sports website. Any story about Woods will draw 100s, if not 1000s of comments in response.
Tonight, officials of the PGA, executives at CBS and most obviously, the sycophantic CBS on-air announcers, are all crying in their beer.
Your post EXACTLY explains why hubby and I came to hate tiger woods.
It’s not him, it’s the “fans” in the media.
They’re ruining their own sport with their obsession with one competitor.
It’s as if ALL of MLB coverage was focused on the Yankees.
