A) A tariff on goods is one of the few constitutional taxes possible.

B) I didn’t say anything about a fair tax. I said “Free” trade which is NOT free, was not conservative.

C) Conservatives put their country first, not corporate interests. Once upon a time corporations were able to come together for a specific time period, for a specific reason that put the best interests of a society ahead, and thus were granted priviledges that individuals are not, and therefore for a time period the rules of accountability were bent. That is no longer the case.

But you go on thinking you can put words in my mouth, and, as always, stay classy.

So, who gets to determine the ‘best interests of society’? Legislators in DC? They sure do a bang up job don’t they?

Constitutionally, tariffs are meant to raise revenue, not protect jobs . . . or whatever codswallop your latest politician proposes.

I wasn't talking "fair tax," I was talking "fair" in the context of this thread. Nice dodge. How much do you want to raise my taxes, true conservative?

Country first. LOL. Did you get that from Lenin?

You mean like the Big 3 automakers? They came together and all agreed over and over again to deals with the UAW that provided absurd salary and benefit packages for unionized workers, because for years there was no competition and the consumer was stuck with Big 3 junk. If it were not for free trade we'd still be stuck with crappy American vehicles because they'd have never had an incentive to improve the quality of their product. Along came competition giving the consumer options and it became quickly apparent the Big 3 should have never, ever been so cozy with the unions and agreed to such rich contracts.
