Yes you are right. There will be a lot of people out looking for these outlaw types. I don’t think they will last very long.
Might want to look at the W&O bike path as well as an alternate, however if you are close to the potomac it might not be an option. You may also want to consider a light kayak/canoe with a small motor and run it up the potomac if it’s just you, however in winter this might not be the best way. Where are you located? I’m just outside of ashburn on the leesburg side. I’m pretty secure in my ‘compound’, ;-), however have set my bug out routes and initial destinations just in case.

Solar power and the costco multi-camera surveillance system along with the LED motion sensor lights rewired to sound an alarm are easy enough to set up. Modern technology uses very little power and can set up a nice perimeter for anyone really concerned about this stuff.
In our case, we’re not there yet. Our 13 acres that we finally moved to just last weekend is an entire finger of a plateau, about 100’ above the valley at its highest point. It is VERY defensible, if it all comes to the Road Warrior thing.
Thing is, if it gets that bad,I strongly believe we will be in the world of Revelation, Daniel, Ezekiel, etc. And those books do not describe a “Road Warrior” world. Rather, the “end” consists of the AntiChrist, one world government, etc. It is the “wrath of Satan” for 3.5 years followed by the return of Jesus and the “wrath of God” for the next 3.5 years. I believe revelation 7 describes my being removed at the end of the first 3.5 years, so I’m preparing for that.
My tag line is now over two years old, I believe.
I was in Costco yesterday and they have a really nice battery operated LED motion sensor flood for less than $20 a pair, IIRC.
This stuff just gets cheaper and cheaper. And connecting this to a warning system would not be all that difficult. Our goal is to have both wind and solar power at our place within a year or so. I firmly expect the SHTF event to happen before the election. I think the election could actually be a main spark to set it off. As things are uglier this year than last, I expect next year to be MUCH uglier.
BTW, I’m at my farm in central KY. I drove out here from Seattle with my last car and am here permanently. There’s no internet service available, except I can use “Edge” data access from my Android phone. It has a feature that makes it a mobile hot spot. Pretty cool, actually.
The technology to automatically watch a perimeter and set off audible or visual alarms is actually pretty cheap nowadays. Relatively speaking, so is solar and Wind. Heck, a little know how coupled with batteries, a few auto alternators and simple machinery and a good location and, presto, you could have at least enough electricity to power a security system for a fairly large property.
I’m often forced to wonder how tough-guy thugs like these would react to a simple “quarantined” sign?
My dad is the one who argues the most against prepping. He’s convinced it’s just another word for hoarding disorder.

They may have ‘military training’, but I and my neighbors have been hunting these woods our entire lives. We have the home field advantage and we know how to use it.
This type of threat would be dealt with quickly and HARSHLY.
