The Supreme Court overthrew the decision. After that many other black athletes began changing their names, too. Lou Alcindor became Kareem Abdul Jabar, etc.
Louis Farrakhan started his rabble rousing and then Islam became a protest movement. That is what we are seeing the continuation of today.
