Well physics isn’t my field, but I have never seen where Rossi calls this cold fusion. He calls it LENR and I have seen at least one people that proposes a pathway that releases neutrons but doesn’t involve fusion. If you want me to I’ll look for it and send you the link.
What is my field is finance/markets/economics, and to me what we have here is a drop-dead date of October, and from a business angle he will either succeed or fail spectacularly. So none of the questioning of the details of Rossi’s process particularly phase me as the proof will either be or not be paraded in front of all the world to see very soon.
They stopped calling it cold fusion when that became ridiculed and started calling it LENR instead. It is the same scam. It is all well and good that someone proposes a pathway that releases neutrons. These guys claim to rely on a pathway that releases no neutrons, which they have to, because no [statistically signficant number above background of] neutrons have been measured to date.

If that were all I would not care a wit, bt that is not true. They are trying to sign up investors, get government grants and otherwise clog up the scientific process with their junk. In order to keep their junk science going they have to deride good science. It is like global warming, except there is a model for how global warming would work if it were true. There isn't even a model for this junk.
