Someday I’ll relate the story of a young white fellow I know who shockingly got accepted at a very prestigious university simply because he checked the ‘African-American’ box on his application.

Probably an Urban Legend (maybe I read it on this board) but there was a story about a white student who checked the "Native American" box. When asked what tribe, he said, "SoSueMe".

That reminds me of ‘F Troop’.

(From Wiki):

The Hekawi tribe supposedly derived their name from an incident in which the tribe became lost, exclaiming “Where the heck are we?”, which then became “We’re the Hekawi” The original name for the tribe, ‘Fugawi’, was to be changed after the censors discovered the sentence “Where the Fugawi?”

I know this is still anecdotal, but I used to date a white woman who received a scholarship to a predominantly black university. She said it was a business program and the university wanted some other than blacks (OTBs) in there. Full ride, minority scholarship.
