You can make vodka out of just about anything — not something you need to be hoarding.

Actually, a Freeper recently suggested that a good item of barter would be a pint of unopened, cheap vodka. Ive thought about looking into buying a case of travelers... When things go south, the most viable barter items will be alcohol, tobacco, and ammo. You can get "roll your own" tobacco in sealed cans (brand names like Tops or Bugler) that will probably last a while.

I would add chocolate to that. Alcohol, chocolate and comfort foods are what people want in bad times. The price of chocolate has really gone up.
