Diapers went up 11% recently. I have enough to get us through the first two months when our daughter arrives, but I think we’re going to go to cloth after that with disposables at night. We’ll see how it works for us.

Good point... in a time of social breakdown, disposable diapers would be hard to come by ... four dozen cloth diapers can get a baby from infancy to two... ( the long ones that have to be folded work best...) and extra diaper pins... and lots of detergent...

Grandmotherly advice... if it is summer time, stick with disposabales. I tried cloth on my daughter in the summer and she ended up with a horrible rash. Disposables really do keep the skin dryer.

Diapers:
Check out Kawaii baby diapers on the internet.
It’s a whole new technology in cloth diapers.
When my kids were babies we used disposable because they were cheap...long,long ago!
I tried old time cloth about 2 days and said, “Enough of this ****!! And went back to disposable.”
Recently, my DIL showed me Kawaii’s she’s used on 4 kids. They are wonderful! Over time they will save you tons of money! No comparison to the old time cloth routine.

In my recently experienced opinion, cloth diapers are just not that cost effective.

Any problem can be solved by throwing either time or money at it. But due to economy of scale, the little extra you throw for dispoable diapers is vastly outweighed by the effort and time required to use and process poopy diapers.

Menstral garments provide a very good working analogy for analysing the benefits and “surprises” inherent in “do it yourself” hygene.

Well I can tell you they stink bad when left in the bucket even over night. And if you get to the point that you have to wash them in the bath tub as I had to, be sure to rinse at least 4 times..urine is a powerful burning agent hard to remove. Prefolds are the best type. Put in a supply of training panties, as you are wasting money on the pull-ups no matter that they are convenient, and start potty training at 1 yr. Take bottle away then too. I used M & M’s for the ‘reward’ when I was training my boys, and they are harder to train than girls.
