LONDON (AP) — Amy Winehouse, the beehived soul-jazz diva whose self-destructive habits overshadowed a distinctive musical talent, was found dead Saturday in her London home, police said. She was 27.

Winehouse shot to fame with the album "Back to Black," whose blend of jazz, soul, rock and classic pop was a global hit. It won five Grammys and made Winehouse — with her black beehive hairdo and old-fashioned sailor tattoos — one of music's most recognizable stars.

“A Dickensian name if there ever was one...”

Ah yes, thank you for articulating something that has been in the very back of my mind for a long time, she really did have a Dickensian name.

That was very English of her!

I’m sorry she’s dead, and very sorry for her parents and family.

Wow—but in many ways, not surprised. She had a long history of substance abuse and her untimely death in many ways did not surprised many in the music industry.

Damn shame, what a waste of talent. All the riches and fame in the world can’t always overcome a drug habit.

Finally!

Something important for the State-Run-Media to talk about, instead of this boring debt ceiling raising thingy!

Rest of Amy Winehouse’s European tour in doubt

The video is painful to watch, an artistic train wreck for all to see. The question is what Amy Winehouse is going to do next. The five-time Grammy Award winner, whose battles with alcohol and drug abuse have long overshadowed her music career, had a very public meltdown on stage Saturday night in Belgrade, the first stop of her European summer concert tour.

When someone wants to do drugs there really is no stopping them. I have learned this the hard way through family experience. The only chance is EARLY intervention. When addicts reach a certain point all you can do is pray for them. The hard thing to accept is letting them go and not having your own life destroyed by their addiction.

Such a sad waste of talent.

If anyone has not seen video of Amy Winehouse singing when even remotely close to sober, they owe themselves at least a 1/2 hour view.

That girl could sing American Blues.

Heroin, no doubt.

“Who is she?”

It helps to read the article that you are commenting on, even the brief excerpt answers your question.

I couldn’t even bear to watch all that video, but from what I did see sadly today was inevitable for her.

Wow, what is it with dead druggie musicians dieing at 27?

That would be "dying"; there is no such word as "dieing."
