woman suffered severe burns and three children were seriously injured when a portable gas barbecue exploded, emergency services said. The children, aged between six and 11, sustained 15 to 20 per cent burns to their upper limbs and a woman in her 40s suffered severe burns to her airway.

Another three adults were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries during the day out at a public playing field.

The explosion happened around 4.30pm at a park on Ashcroft Road, behind Stopsley Fire Station in Luton, Bedfordshire.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said a group of around 20 people were at the playing fields when the barbecue caught fire. Fire fighters from Stopsley fire station worked with ambulance crews to treat the casualties using gel packs for burns. East of England Ambulance Services NHS Trust were supported by an air ambulance. Fire Service Incident Commander Kevin Moores said: 'The fire crews were first at the scene and were able to provide initial emergency first aid to the casualties, and then work with paramedics and ambulance crews.

'It appears that the barbecue ignited resulting in a fireball. We are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire to determine how this happened.'

Would help if the reporter knew the difference between a Gas grill and a Bar-B-Que.

I feel for the victims, but this is obviously the result of right wing extremists.

When propane is outlawed, only outlaws will have propane.

All ‘news’ is agenda driven. So, reading this in that light, what is the agenda? What is the point?

Dozens of people are injured cooking with fire everyday worldwide, in homes, in kitchens, and especially with grills. The most interesting part of this story to me is that it was reported at all. From the title I thought it would be more noteworthy.

Haha yea, that would be nice. I was thinking to myself how exactly a small pile of charcoal would even explode, and how it could be strong enough to knock the grill out of the way, then spread over a bunch of people. Using propane didn’t even enter my head :p

One of my best ever practical jokes involved a gas grill. My neighbors frind had a grill explode and so my neighbor was afreaid to light hers and asked me to. I went in my house for some matches and grabbed an M-80 I happened to have lying around. I stuck my head in the grill, lit the M-80 and tossed it on the ground. Just then, she came out on the deck, just in time for the big KABOOM.

Best gag ever.

Sounds yummy. What do you marinade them in? For myself, I like just some Worcestershire sauce , tyhme and a little bit of garlic on them while they’re grilling.

Sounds good. For me the tyhme and the W Sauce gives it a nice savory flavor. Bon appetite.
