Eurotwit: Its my political party. The right wing party of Norway. The killer in Oslo liked them too :/ They are affiliated with the Republican party and are socially conservative and economically liberal. The party leader is an Ayn Rand fan - which I personally think is a shame. Rand was nuts.
Eurotwit, you realize you proved cripplecreek's point, right? "Socially conservative and economically liberal" is what, at best, in America is called a RINO, and the bane of American conservatives as they are nothing other than undercover socialists. That's what cripplecreek was pointing out, and this difference is EXTREMELY important as the MSM starts blatting about the word "conservative" in the American press without acknowledging this difference.
Europe doesn't have true conservatives, because Europe has no natural rights to conserve. NO european government is based on the sovereignty of the people over the government. NO european people are even raised with this concept, and those who know about it mostly consider it an esoteric fantasy, rather than the root of true freedom.
And as for the "leader" of a "republican" party that is "economically liberal" being an "Ayn Rand fan," such a comparison IS nuts. You've obviously never even read her works, or you'd be too embarrassed to make such an absurd equivalency.
Sorry. Simple misunderstanding. In Europe economically liberal means free market. Liberal = liberty.
And, in some ways you are right about European conservatism. I do like Edmund Burke, but it has its limits. You have to conserve something valuable. Burke would state that what is IS valuable because history has proved it to be.
Anyhow. Siv Jensen and the right wing party. They look more to America and your founding fathers, but tent do be a bit social conservative. Siv Jensen is a fan of Thatcher and Sarah Palin.
Cheers.
To put it really simply: They want to promote marriage and traditional value and get the state our of the economy and lower taxes.
