In regards to the terrorist act in Norway today. I've been following this in the news via the web and some TV, and I've noticed something interesting.

The car bombing attacks were seemingly aimed at the ruling Labor Party of Norway. The mass shooting incident took place at a Labor Party summer camp for the kiddies of Labor Party members. These must be borne in mind.

We're all familiar with the various tactics of al-Qaeda and the other jihadist organizations out there: but since when have they been concerned about political parties? This was not an attack on the Norwegian government per se. This seems to be an attack on the Labor Party itself.

The suspected shooter has been confirmed as a 32 year old Norwegian. Additionally, other explosive devices were apparently found on the island where the suspect was arrested.

Let's play Columbo here for a minute (RIP Peter Falk). How difficult would it be for a person to rig a car or two to explode via a timer (these were apparently NOT suicide attacks) and then hop a little boat to the island and start picking people off? The Norwegian authorities are themselves saying that there is a link between the shooter and the bombings: it's entirely possible that the shooter and the bomber are one and the same.

We may be looking at domestic terrorism, the lone-wolf variety (or maybe with another accomplice). Someone disgruntled with the Labor Party, or perhaps a former employee who was fired?

I trust the Norwegian authorities to investigate this atrocity; before we all start screaming for blood (and possibly of people who may have had nothing to do with it) let's let the professionals do their job first. As Americans, we mustn't jump to conclusions....that's one of the principles of the rule of law.

The leftwing party and the Muslims in Norway have been calling for an attack on Israel if they go into Gaza. Perhaps the Labor Party is against attacking Israel and this is payback by the leftwingers and muslim fanatics?

If the terrorist(s) had wanted to harm the government at large and not just a specific party, then how would they have chosen the targets differently?

I agree with you assessment. This smacks to me of a political motive, not a religious one. Lone-wolf nutjob.

I’d say small group (along the lines of McVeigh and his couple of helpers) than lone wolf.

A pipe bomb, package bomb, yeah lone-wolf sounds right. A car bomb? A truck? Logistically speaking, it just seems beyond one guy.

The attack seems TOO specific. If you wanted to harm the government at large, you go after targets regardless of political affiliation. Most likely, you blow up a subway, or a bus.

By why attack a summer camp specifically for Labor Party youth members? That’s kind of odd...furthermore, former Norwegian prime minister and WHO head Gro Harlem Brundtland was supposed to speak at the summer camp, and current prime minister Jens Stoltenberg was scheduled to make an appearance later today or tomorrow.

This is politically motivated, and with the WHO involved, ten to one it’s some anarchist type.

A distinct possibility. A small and tight knit conspiracy, three or four maximum.

Muslims terrorists are indeed politically astute.

I will believe this is jihad until proven otherwise.

I believe the two incidents are related. Not sure it was a solo job.

I too have been following the events via Twitter and Norwegian bloggers. It was reported that the perp gained access to the island where the campers were by posing as a police officer needing to speak to the kids about the Oslo bombing.

Ironic, I must admit. May she has a crystal ball.

Nonetheless, terrorism comes in many shapes and sizes and colors.

The more I read, the more I’m starting to sniff a political motive behind this. I could be wrong of course. Here in Berlin, you see quite a few ethnic German converts to Islam (mercifully, most of them Sufism), and there’s an old saw about the recently converted being the most fanatical (religiously or politically speaking). I doubt our blond friend would be the first Norwegian in all of recorded history to convert to Islam if it is indeed religiously motivated. That being said, this strikes me as too specific an attack; ie, against the ruling Labor Party in particular. That’s not really the MO of your typical fanatical jihadi.

The more they look into OkBomb, the more there are connections to AbuSayef in the southern Phillipines and to Iraqis. The first reports from OKC were CORRECT.

Doesn’t matter who did it in Norway —the PC forces there are sooo powerful that even if ONE blonde was involved here, we’ll never hear the truth.

I initially thought it may be linked to that Krekar twit, but seems to be exactly what you wrote.

My brother finally got a hold of a friend in Norway and he too thinks it’s a attack on the Labour Party by a single nut (perhaps part of a small group).

That’s quite distressing.

When I think of political violence, Norway doesn’t spring to mind right away.

I too thought about Mullah Krekar, but then again, like most mullahs, he’s just talking out of his @$$, so anything he’s saying I take with a big grain of salt.

Now if he’d specifically said, “I’m gonna sic one of my white homies on ya’all”, that’s a different story. But he didn’t. He just said Norway “would pay a heavy price”, so that way, if there’s some catastrophic lutefisk shortage, he can spout off, “I told you so!”

If it’s an attack on Labor, the push back will keep Labor in power for the indefinite future and marginalize any conservative opposition. That is even if the “lone nut” turns out to be an Eco freak. It also might harm the Tea Party here or, at least, be used against conservatives.

Thanks for the link. Der Spiegel is a good source of info.

I think we’ll all know in the next day or two (maybe a little longer depending on how reticent the suspect is) the exact motive behind this. Right now, it’s hard to say with any certainty, but IMHO, I’m going with an act of political extremism/violence. Wacko nutjob, or maybe an anarchist (yeah, I know.....same thing).

Regardless, my thoughts and prayers for the people of Norway after this horrific tragedy.
