Has Rush really been progressive since “Permanent Waves”?

What exactly IS "progressive" rock? I've always thought that it's a combination of excellent musicianship and experimentation leading to evolution in sound... That's certainly a good description of Rush over the years, IMHO

Great comment. Agree. Big fan of Rush along with plenty other acts mentioned in this thread. I'd probably include Megadeth and Van Halen as well. VH wasn't prog lyrically, but EVH's playing really didn't conform to any other recognizeable genre, and advanced rock musicianship.

Here’s a live version of Rush’s “Caravan” - will be on their next album. I think it qualifies as prog rock.

Rumor has it that the album will be more of a thematic piece. From the two songs so far probably based on Peart’s life.
