But how do you define prog rock?

While the Rutles were pioneers, they did not explore the musicscape as deeply as the Bonzo Dog Band ☺ LoL

I know where you’re going and I agree. I could add a lot more to my list of favorites but I didn’t want to go overboard. I’d do a whole ‘nother list of fusion with Jeff Beck, Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, Hellborg, etc. But they all could go under the broad umbrella of Prog.
Ever go to any of the Prog festivals? I’ve done Prog Day at Chapel Hill NC once and NEAR Fest in Bethlehem PA and Trenton NJ about 4 times. Nektar played at the last NEAR Fest I attended. Best concert I ever saw.

I have never seen Nektar, and they are far and away one of the best, most overlooked bands that ever was.

Re: Transatlantic
That looks like Mike Portnoy on drums. Is this where he went when he left Dream Theater?

The short lived combo "UK" John Wetton, Allan Holdsworth, Bill Bruford, Eddie Jobson."In the Dead of Night" is my favorite song that they did. UK is a really great album. I think they only did one other, and Bruford left and Terry Bozzio came in. Actually, I think Holdsworth left too.
I saw UK as an opening act for Jethro Tull back in the mid-70s. Great concert.

Transatlantic is a side Project that Mike Portnoy has participated in since 2000? They have 3 albums out which are unbelievable.
Mike Portnoy - Dream Theater (Drums)
Roine Stolt - The Flower Kings (Guitar)
Neal Morse - Spock's Beard (Keys)
Pete Trewavas - Marillion (Bass)

Decidedly fusion.
But heavily fused to prog rock.
