At the very minimum, this police officer should lose her job. I'd hope the owner files a civil suit.
If the story turns out to be true in that the dog was chained and 30 feet away, then this woman does not have the judgment to be a police officer. If true I'd hate to see what this woman might do in another situation which requires good judgment.
BTW, I do question the accuracy of anyone who would chain a dog. To me this is animal cruelty in the great majority of situations. I'll wait for the investigation and the facts to pass judgment.

Agreed. Chaining is cruel and many states have laws against endless chaining of a dog. They are social animals. Having said that, a chained dog is no threat to anyone. The dog was not loose. These stories are beginning to sound as if any dog on the premises is in danger (inside or outside the house) if the cops come calling. Needs to stop and citizens need to demand a better protocol.
