3/6/60 "The Moonshine Matter" Matter #681 Bob Bailey, Virginia Gregg (Upha Krump), Harry Bartell (Clark Tracy), Ben Wright (Charles Kingsleigh St. Clair), Sam Edwards, Vic Perrin, Ralph Moody (Dave Wupper) ; Writer/Producer/Director - Jack Johnstone ; Announcer - John Wald ; Expense Account Total = $340.00 ; Clark Tracy of Providential Assurance Company calls Johnny on a case. Casper Krump has been murdered in Kennett, Missouri and his wife Upha is the beneficiary of a $5000 policy. The local agent is Harvard educated Charles Kingsleigh St. Clair) who doesn't fit in. This is hillbilly country and when Johnny shows up to make the pay out he faces a series of rifles and a killer. Gunshots greet him as his car approaches. The car smashes into a tree. The shooters, Seth and Cas Dingle thought he was the revenuer. They then befriend him when he explains that he is there to give the Krump widow $5000. They warn him to stay away from Dave Wupper, who is jealous of Upha. He meets the 20 year old widow who has four children. Cas Dingle takes Johnny through the 20 Mile Swamp to the shack of Dave Wupper. Wupper kills Cas, and then admits that he had already killed Krump. Johnny manages to take him in. Pretty Tara Hantree enters to see if her handmirror from Boston has arrived. Matt has dinner with Kitty, and she talks about Tara. Matt and Chester had brought Tara back into Dodge City, Kansas, after her father died, and arranged for the wealthy, church going Lawrence and Gretchen Kells family to take her in. Kitty is concerned that 17 year old Tara is hanging around the Texas Trail Saloon, and taking up with Jack Grace. Kitty thinks something is wrong with Grace - empty inside, just mean crazy. When Matt goes to see the Kells he finds Tara and Grace together. Tara is adamant about maintaining her relationship with Grace. Matt and Chester go to the social which is supposed to be run by the Kells. Chester's date is Miss Honeycutt. Matt leaves with Kitty to go to the Kells house. The house is dark. Matt is suspicious because he didn't pass the Kells on the way, and they weren't at the social. Inside, he finds both of the Kells shot dead. He sends Kitty for Doc and Chester. As he looks around he finds Tara crying. She says that Kells confronted Grace, telling him to leave, and then Grace shot both of them - and then he hit her and left. Matt takes after Grace in the night on his swift buckskin horse. He guesses that Grace is headed for Abilene, Kansas, rather than back to Texas. Matt finds Grace and gets him to drop his weapons. Later Grace asks if he can light-up. When Grace goes for a derringer up his sleeve Matt shoots him dead. Matt sees Tara off on board the stagecoach for St. Louis. (Sus.) (CBS) (29:52)

Diamond thinks Blackwell is nuts, and is phoning the cops when he has a gun pulled on him and he is locked in the closet. When he gets out a midget named "Big Man", who is employed by Blackwell, comes in and pulls a gun on Diamond. When Helen Asher comes in the office Diamond distracts Big Man and drops him with a punch. When Big Man revives he is able to run away. Diamond and Otis visit Vladimir the artist to have a composite drawing made of John Blackwell. Dick Powell sings "I Only Have Eyes For You". (29:28)
