Kluszewski was injured early on in the season; in fact, he only played four full seasons (all with the Reds) thanks to injuries. Stan Musial, though, was having such a big season---he ended up leading the National League in batting average, on-base percentage, and OPS, way beyond what any of the Reds' best was doing---that even the Cincinnati ballot-box stuffers couldn't have overcome Musial's All-Star voting; he was clearly the best first baseman in the league in 1957 with Crowe a decent enough second.
