For unknown reasons, the judge in the civil lawsuit against Casey Anthony recused himself from the case on Friday.
Judge Jose Rodriguez made the announcement shortly after the 8 a.m. hearing began, reports CBS affiliate WKMG.
Zenaida Gonzalez, who shares the same name as a fictitious babysitter whom Casey Anthony claimed kidnapped her daughter Caylee in 2008, is suing Anthony for defamation.
The move came after Anthony's attorney called for a sidebar, where attorneys from both sides talked with the judge for about 15 minutes.
Gonzalez's attorney, John Morgan, said he did not request the recusal, WKMG reports.
Morgan was expected to argue Friday that Anthony should be deposed before she is released from jail Sunday. He filed the motion Wednesday requiring Anthony attend a deposition either on July 19 or before Sunday's scheduled release from the Orange County Jail.
Morgan is concerned that Anthony will not show up for a scheduled deposition next Tuesday and he wants a judge to force her to appear, reports the station.
A timetable for a decision is not known.

I wonder if anyone counted up all the lies Casey told...
The woman lost her job and her apartment.......because Casey lied. She was convicted of that lie.
How many lies? I doubt Cindy can count that high...but there she was in court whispering how beautiful Casey looked minutes before she was acquitted of murdering Caylee. Only a mother’s love?
Who do you believe? Me or your lyin’ eyes? She’s too obviously guilty or the dang jury would have acquitted her on those, too. Can’t fathom the lunacy attached to this case. Does Baez really believe a judicial panel will reverse this? I don’t think so.
What keeps haunting me is hearing the jury say that she drowned in the pool when NO evidence was ever presented. Baez cannot testify to what Casey said....and we all know Casey never testified to that in court, she never even took the stand. She never told the cops that either. So where to the jurors come up with this? Baez is the only answer. He was never on the witness stand.
That would take some time.
I agree. Some of them say they thought she was guilty; so why didn’t they convict? Given that people say who were in the courtroom this jury was so disinterested, it doesn’t make sense.
Wasn’t there a mock jury held that favored Casey?

Yes. I am. Does anyone really think this Zeneida would have even thought about a lawsuit until the ambulance chasing lawyers started a drumbeat? Same with the others waiting in line to sue.
Not defending Casey Anthony, just saying she had her day in court.
The news just said Casey Anthony will not be deposed until October. Sad.
Dont ya wish our elected officials would fight for us the same way these lawyers fight for criminals. Oh, Congress does fight for criminals.
Zaneida’s life became a circus....she lost her job and her home due to Casey’s lies. Why shouldn’t she have the right to her day in court? She has damages. Casey made her own bed, she might have gotten off for murder, but she WAS convicted of this lie.
