Now days you can get an OBDII tester for next to nothing. find one that works on Honda and learn how to use it.

I had an 85 IROC-Z28 and could pull codes with a paper clip. When you jumped the proper terminals, the check engine light would flash codes. Pretty cool.

I have had several cars that did that. In 1995 they went to OBD. Helps but can be a pain.
